Garden Three

Garden 3 started as a 10′ x 20′ patch of land that was later expanded to 20′ x 70′. In the beginning the Garden took plants donations from everyone and even took plants left out by the curb, as we had no money and vacant land to fill. Now we are much more selective and working towards more Florida Native and Florida Friendly plants that are host and nectars to the butterflies and bees. However, we will always have blooming annual plants.

In 2018 Garden 3 expanded again to the East by 50′ inspired by the existing Bismark palms as a show piece, the area was initially called Barry’s Island.

After clearing off the scruff and digging out several dead stumps, a path was created to connect Garden 3 to Garden 4, fondly called the Yellow Mulch Road. The plan was to keep this garden more open than all the others, however as time has moved on, the space is becoming very crowded.

If expanding to the East was not enough, in 2019, Garden 3 was again expanded to the West by another 50′. This time the goal was to connect Gardens 1-4 with an internal walking path and at the same time creating a better view of the garden from the street side by opening paths from the grass side into the gardens.

Our plan now is to replace aging plants with Keystone native plants along with more host and nectar plants. When planting we also want to direct the eye to see into the garden from both the sidewalk and the street side by not obstructing the view.

Our team is Kristi DiCecco (Leader), Ed & Bernice Anzures, and Maureen Paonessa.
